ISO 20022 after the migration: unlocking the data dividend

16 Sept 2026 · 7 min read · Payzess Insights

The migration deadline has passed. The real value of structured, rich payment data is only just being tapped.

Most institutions approached ISO 20022 as a compliance deadline. Now that the coexistence period is over, the focus is shifting to what richer, structured data can do for straight-through processing, screening accuracy and client reporting.

The fastest gains come from structured addresses and remittance information, which reduce false positives in sanctions screening and simplify reconciliation for corporate clients.

Organisations that invest now in data quality at source — rather than enriching messages downstream — will be best placed to build value-added services on top of their payment flows.
